Dr. V S Kanthikiran Varanasi, is currently working as Director& Head – Preclinical and Bioassay in Global Clinical Management, IPDO, Dr. Reddy Laboratories Ltd., India. In his current role, Kanthikiran is responsible for designing and management of various bio studies across nonclinical and clinical development of various complex generics for NAG/EU/EMIN markets. Kanthikiran has over 21 years of research experience where he worked in the areas of DMPK/PD/Tox/Bioassay/Bioanalytics/Microbiology/CPPK for both NCE/NBE and formulation research in oncology, metabolic disorders, pain, and inflammation projects. Kanthikiran holds a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy from Andhra University –Visakhapatnam, a Masters in Pharmacology from Andhra University college of Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with pharmacology option from Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (Pilani). Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics interaction of antidiabetic molecules formed the crux of his Master’s and Doctoral research. As a management aspirant holds additional Masters in Business administration (MBA) at IGNOU (New Delhi), Kanthikiran studied the various prescription patterns of NSAIDs in Market Research. His career started with Dr. Reddy’s Research Foundation [Hyderabad, India] in 1997 as senior pharmacologist where he has worked in the areas of diabetes, hyper-lipidemia, cancer and anti-inflammatory research to screen and develop the new chemical entities using various pharmacological assays. In 2000 he joined Sun Pharma Advanced Research Centre [Vadodara, India] as a Sr. Executive -Pharmacokinetics and clinical pharmacology department where he played major role in development of clinical pharmacology unit and established international regulatory environment. In 2003 he moved to Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited [Navi Mumbai, India] as Sr. Research Scientist and later promoted as Principal Scientist & Head- Pharmacokinetics and Drug metabolism where he established several in vitro and in vivo ADME techniques. He supported Pharmacokinetic, toxicokinetic and drug metabolism needs of in-house R&D of Drug Discovery as well as product development. In 2008, he moved to Incozen Therapeutics and currently working as Director- ADME & safety Evaluation. During his entire tenure he has contributed his knowledge in screening and development of the new chemical entities for oncology, asthma & COPD, diabetes, pain and immune mediated disorders. He has contributed to develop several molecules in various clinical phases and procured the outstanding milestone payments to the organization. In 2012, he joined Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd as Associate Director in Biostudies Department to provide the nonclinical and clinical support for generic products across global markets. In addition, Kanthikiran was also trained in various GCP/GLP workshops and internal Quality audit course from IIQM (Jaipur). Kanthikiran has published in various peer-reviewed international journals and has several abstracts/patents/guideship to his credit.
